August 2025

Welcome! Newsletter number 56.

Sweden pretty much shuts down in the summer, and, as a model immigrant, I adapt (or, let’s say, I hardly have a choice). So, the past few weeks were mainly spent hiking, camping, playing and watching sports. With regard to the latter, the best moment was Jannik Sinner’s victory at Wimbledon (up the Tyroleans!), and the worst the quarter-final loss of the Swedish women’s soccer team at the European Championships after one of the most bizarre penalty shootouts ever. Very saddened by Laura Dahlmeier’s passing!

I did get a bit of work in, but it was for long-term projects that I will only mention when there’s anything to show because I’m superstitious that way. I can, however, already mention that all English-language readers shall look forward to the English edition of Niillas Somby’s autobiography, scheduled to come out in the spring of 2026, since there is something to show for, namely, the announcement on the publisher’s website. I had the honor of helping to edit the book.

I also managed to keep up the line of monthly reviews. “Listen and Learn” is a little something about Dhoruba Bin Wahad’s Revolution in These Times.

I don’t have much more this month, but I’d like to, once again, encourage folks to check out the Bandcamp page of everyone’s favorite anarchist hip-hop duo Drowning Dog and Malatesta (find a great interview on DIY Conspiracy), and, if possible, spend a few bucks on great tunes, stylish T-shirts or whatever else you may find. Drowning Dog is facing serious health issues and every dollar/euro helps. Life isn’t easy on our side of the barricades, even in the glorious Global North.

I assume there’ll be more next month. Stay safe and enjoy your summer!
