August 2024

Welcome! Newsletter number 43.

During the month of July, I was mainly busy traveling. First, I went to Austria. Not only to visit the Tyrol but also to record an hour-long radio documentary at the Formula 1 race in Spielberg. Not that I know anything about radio, but my friend and colleague Sebastian Friedrich invited me to come along. It was a great experience, even if Formula 1 surroundings are challenging. It seems to take a long time to produce radio documentries. The broadcast is scheduled for the spring of 2025.

After that, I traveled to northern Norway to attend the Sámi Riddu Riđđu Festival. Two years ago, I wrote about it in German (both for ak and jW), this time in Swedish for Flamman – article forthcoming. Perhaps an interview or two as well. An article about football in Sápmi has just been published by Ballesterer. I haven’t received the issue yet; hopefully, I can share with the next newsletter.

My final trip had nothing to do with work. I was hiking and camping in what the Swedes call mountains. Upon my return, I went to speak at the Husby Social Center; Husby being one of the Stockholm suburbs with the highest migrant populations. I always love going there and am a big fan of Husby Arbetarcentrum. It was by far the best part of returning to SAC duties. Being back at the office is much harder to stomach.

I did manage to write a new review! “Always a Political Phenomenon” looks at the English translation of a Catalan football classic by Ramon Usall.

There should be more things to present next month. Not much happening in Sweden during the summer.

Stay safe!
